
He said Sri Lanka was getting black marks internationally due to the failure of previous rulers to hold proper investigations into war crimes accusations against the military. Such a situation would not have arisen had the truth been revealed through a proper investigation, he said.
The entire military is being accused due to the wrongs committed by a handful of persons, he said, adding that investigating the allegations and punishing those responsible for war crimes at least belatedly will save retired and serving military personnel from condemnation.
The Sri Lankan delegation led by president Maithripala Sirisena left for New York yesterday to attend the UNGA that begins today. The president is due to address the event today.
