6 A/L STUDENTS WHO AFTER EXAM ATTENDS PARTY IN ISLAND ... EATS, DRINKS AND GET INTOXICATED ... DIE WHEN RAFTER TOPLLES!
In order to celebrate the birthday of a colleague, 7 A/L students after sitting for the A/L exam had been to moving towards Mandaithivu island, Punnai, Jaffna last evening at about 1.35 in the afternoon when the rafter in which they were travelling in had capsized and 6 students have lost their lives in the process.
It was a group of students aged 19 and 20 years from Nallur of Jaffna, Kokuvil and Urumpai who had
faced this tragedy. Relatives of deceased students say that some of these students are following a training course at Kokuvil Technical College. Several of these students have faced this Advanced Level Exam for the second time and one of the students has had his birthday today. With the idea of celebrating it, 18 students have come near the Eluvativu Jetty close to the beach. 7 of them had been moving towards Mandaithivu Island having made use of a fishing rafter parked on the beach after fishing operations had been over when all of a sudden the rafter has lost its balance and had toppled.At that moment the other students had been watching this scene from the beach, police say. It was revealed that these students who were in the rafter were intoxicated and that the rafter itself was beyond the expected standard as revealed at investigations. A group of officers under the supervision of Officer-in-Charge of Kayts, Inspector of Police Mr. Dharmadasa are conducting further inquiries in this connection.
