Kim Wall case: submarine owner Peter Madsen denies murder charges

Kim Wall case: submarine owner Peter Madsen denies murder charges

On Wednesday this week, Ms Wall’s headless torso was discovered in the Baltic Sea by detectives, leading to Madsen’s new charge of mutilating a corpse.

It has been revealed that DNA samples from the body, which had metal attached to it, provided an exact match to Ms Wall’s hairbrush and toothbrush.

On Thursday furthermore, a body part was found near Swedish waters, but police said that it was too early in time to conclude whether the part discovered belonged to the deceased journalist’s.

In response to his new charge, 46-year old Madsen continues to deny all allegations made that he aggressively killed Ms Wall.

Copenhagen police issued the statement: “The suspect denies homicide and desecration of a human body”.

With further reference to the discovery of Ms Wall’s torso, police disclosed that her limbs had been “deliberately cut off”. It has also been revealed by investigators that traces of her blood had been found inside the sunken submarine itself.

Madsen has been arrested for manslaughter offences ever since the disappearance of Ms Wall, who boarded his submarine in earlier this month.
In providing a statement of what happened to Ms Wall, the submarine owner told officials two conflicting stories.

Initially, Madsen claimed that he had safely dropped the journalist off on land near Copenhagen the night before her disappearance. However, the suspect later claimed that he buried Ms Wall at sea, following the collapse sink of his submarine which had killed her.

Mr Madsen’s sunken submarine, the Nautilus, was built in 2008 by the owner and some volunteers. It had been known as the biggest private submarine ever made and Ms Wall was intending to write a feature on it.

It has been reported that after being granted ownership of the submarine by the board in 2015, Madsen had sent a text message to two board members saying “there is a curse on Nautilus”. “That curse is me. There will never be peace on Nautilus as long as I exist”.

In the meantime, detective teams have announced that the search for Ms Wall’s remaining body parts has been suspended. Officials have not commented upon why this search has been stopped, but it is hoped that it will commence momentarily.

The police have furthermore stated: "We also still want to hear from people who can make us more aware of the people involved and their behaviour,”

Officials have also asked the public to keep an eye out for an orange turtleneck blouse, a black and white skirt and white trainers – all of the clothes that Ms Wall was wearing upon her disappearance.

As for Mr Madsen, it has been reported that prosecutors have until early September to enquire about an extension of his custody.
