A person by the name Sathasivam has proposed to the PM to hold this Pooja as he is having a very bad period these days. He is due back on the 27th.
Most in the country though Ranil to be a real liberal who is a disbeliever of myths. It is sad to see a leader like him with some liberalism in him giving into myths. Previously, when asked about his Mahanayake homage, minister Mangala Pinsiri Samaraweera said he was forced to do so by his colleague Malik Samarawickrema. Ranil’s Kovil visit will also be described as one done at the insistence of Sathasivam.
When the country’s leaders are overpowered by myths like this, the country is run according to the wants of exorcists. We remember just having passed 10 such years with Mahinda who gimmicked with magic balls. We will not say anything if incumbent Maithri takes up permanent residence at Uda Maluwa of Sri Maha Bodhi, because we know him to be a Buddhist born in the rural Polonnaruwa. According to such persons, the Bo tree is more powerful than the Buddha or Buddhism. It is pointless to explain to them. But, leaders who embrace myths after showing some signs of liberalism dashes the hopes for the country’s future.
There are many Sri Lankan heads of state who were overpowered by myths. This is one of them.
R. Premadasa and the orchid
When Ranasinghe Premadasa was the president, there was a particular orchid plant at Sucharitha. Before starting his daily work there, he used to look at this orchid plant in order to compose himself.
The PSD was responsible for examining every nook and corner before the president’s arrival. One day, when a PSD man was checking the orchid plant pot, one petal of the flower fell. He did not see it and the petal remained on the floor. As usual, Premadasa went to see the orchid plant, took one look and left, postponing all his work.
Until late into that night, what he did was to get exorcists to do white magic to nullify the bad caused by the dropping of that orchid flower petal. That is what happens when a man is overpowered by myths.
