An IS suicide bomb attack on Afghanistan Cricket Stadium ... recently wedded Sri Lankan cricketer too in vicinity

One ploice officer and 3 others lost their lives with 12 persons being wounded in the process as a result of a bomb attack launched by the assailants entering the location where spectators were at Alcatras Cricket Stadium in the town of Kabul, Afghanistan yesterday (13).

This attack was launched at the competition 20 -
20 league match similar to the IPL called Shpageeza Cricket League 2017 played annually in Afghanistan. This tournament was organised with some players from Sri Lanka, South Africa and Zimbabwe being invited for the tournament and player Ashan Priyanjan represented Sri Lanka at the game played yesterday. Ashan who was an up-and-coming player of the Sri Lankan team entered into marriage last April and you may remember that we published relevant photographs in the website.

In fact the referee of the match happened to be a former cricketer of the Sri Lankan team, Graham Labrooy. It was revealed at investigations that the target of the suicide bombers may have been the players who had been engaged in the match and at the time he had been approaching the playground the security forces who were there had directed him to a guard room; thus it was able to prevent a tragedy and it was at that point the assailant had exploded the bomb.

No player was harmed from this attack. After this incident, one-day matches have been abandoned; but the tournament is in progress. Foreign sources report that security of overseas players have been strengthened further. What Sri Lanka's Administrative Officer of Sri Lanka Cricket Mr. Ashley de Silva informed the media was that this was not a competition where Sri Lankan cricketers participated on an official invitation as such and that Sri Lanka Cricket would not accept responsibility on any player attending this tournament from Sri Lanka.
Players like allrounder Mahroof and Jeewan Mendis have participated in this tournament representing other teams.

Though it has been reported that 3 have died from this attack, certain other media have reported that 9 persons are among the dead. This morning (14) the IS Terrorist Organisation have accepted responsibility for the attack and Afghanistan for a long period of time has faced a war-stricken environment and attacks of this nature has been common and for that reason a large amount of money is expended to secure foreign players and it is reported that for this very reason some individuals consent to join these invitations without paying heed to the risk involved.
