Electricity strike continues -- services of casual probationary workers made compulsory

The strike launched by Sri Lanka Electricity Trade Unions is continuing. The talks held with Minister Siyambalapitiya this evening proved a failure. He said that some issues that cropped up are those left behind by the previous regime and he had taken steps now to provide a stage to discuss at a time those days such opportunities of speech were closed. His intention he says is to offer security to
the employees and therefore it is not justified to continue this way. The Minister had further said that no room would be made for electricity consumers to face problems.

In the above context he has issued an emergency media announcement saying that it is mandatory that all employees within the probationary service period on a casual basis of the Sri Lanka Electricity Board wose services are essential to provide emergency service report for duty before 8.30 a.m. on 15.09.2017 (tomorrow). It was further notified that all employees who come under the probationary period on a casual basis not reporting for duty in that manner would be considered as having vacated their posts.
