Father of 2 children who won 5 crores ... squanders it till it's finished!

A certain person who was earning his bread and butter by selling flowers happened to win a lottery running into 5 crores; but instead of his life turning into a bed of roses he had become addicted to narcotics and thus had wasted his life. This piece of news comes from Anuradhapura Court, yesterday.

The man had won a a lottery of Rs. 500 lakhs 3 years ago. He was one Herath Hamige Rasika
Bandara (40) from Galkadawala, Anuradhapura and was the father of 2 children. During the period he won the said lottery, immoral friends had surrounded him and monies were spent for immoral purposes, his wife had said in courts. He had come forward to courts for 6 offences of using heroin and rackets involving ganja and for being in possession of such things during the past 5 years and it was for the 7th time that he appeared yesterday. His intimate colleagues had proposed that it would be possible to double and treble the money he won from the lottery by dealing in heroin and therefore he had utilised that money for that business. As such, he had invested monies on that business. Though he was drawing good money for a period of time, he was nabbed on several instances and his earnings on the narcotics trade dropped.

By now though he does not involve himself in that business, he had nevertheless become addicted to narcotics and had spoilt his life. Even his family are not in a state to eke out a living now, it was revealed in court. Whatever it is, he finally was found guilty in connection with heroin by courts and Chief Magistrate and District Judge of Anuradhapura, Mr. K.P. Shanaka Harshan who ordered yesterday that he be admitted to a rehabilitation camp. He has been directed to Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre in Welikanda for 1 year for rehabilitation purposes.
