Nawa Sama Samaja Party leader Dr. Vikramabahu Karunaratne says racism cannot be given a democratic right. Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo yesterday (15), he said racists should be given swift punishment. At least now, the leadership of the UNP, a party that opposes racism, should correct its mistakes and plan its future action, he said.
The country now has a question as to which system of governance it requires. Racist forces are rising up against the government, he alleged, adding that they want to see a civil war. The government’s conduct was in an unpardonable manner, said Karunaratne.
The prime minister had no powers, as the president has all the powers once the state of emergency is declared, he noted.
